Don lives on four acres near Grand Rapids, MI. He and his wife have many flower gardens in which they grow hostas, irises, daylilies, and other perennials. Don enjoys hybridizing new hosta cultivars and rock hounding, which explains why his landscape is filled with many one-of-a-kind hostas, as well as unusual rocks and boulders. Don currently serves as the president of the West Michigan Hosta Society and the co-chairman of the Nomenclature Committee of the AHS.

The 2026 Banquet will offer 3 entrees: Chicken-Broccoli Cheese Casserole (gluten-free), Sliced Roast Beef Au Juice (gluten free option available), and Vegetable Lasagna.
Meals include: White Cheddar Smashed Potatoes, Capri Blend Vegetables, Romaine Mix Salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette, Rolls/Butter with a gluten-free option available on request, and Hot Fudge Sundae, Cheesecake, or Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Icing for dessert. Coffee, Water, and Iced Tea are included at $25.00 per person.
Your guest, spouse, or significant other who isn’t attending Hosta College can join us for the banquet by selecting the additional Companion Banquet option when you are enrolling and including the additional $25.00.
